Famous England World Cup Moments
Down the years, England have appeared in a total of thirteen World Cup finals and during those tournaments, they have suffered a degree of mixed emotions. The most famous and celebrated England World Cup moment came in 1966 when they defeated Germany 4-2 at Wembley to lift the trophy for the first and only time.
Ironically, it was the Germans who were the perpetrators of the most infamous England World Cup moment when they beat Bobby Robson's England side in the Semi Finals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. A game that is as famous for the tears of Gazza, following his yellow card that would have seen him miss the final as it was for the penalty misses from Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle that ended the dream.
